 HOW I WORK

Leading a creative life is important to me. I am always experimenting and developing new ways of expressing myself through painting and drawing.

I like to challenge myself to work in new ways – with different combinations of media, mark-making, and subject matter.

I am happiest outdoors - en plein air – drawing or painting in the landscape, so that I can respond dynamically to the atmosphere, the colours and the changing light.

I believe passionately in drawing as a way of exploring my relationship with my subject. I always draw on the spot, either in charcoal or pastel, and often then develop the work in oil or pastel back in the studio.

I tend to work in themes over several years. My current inspiration is the landscape and coastline of the South Hams in Devon where I live.
